L-Citrulline Pharmacokinetics Study

Bioavailability Study

L-citrulline is a naturally occurring non-essential amino acid that facilitates protein synthesis for muscle tissue retention, helps to maintain healthy protein balance, and is involved in the formation of urea in the liver.*

Three healthy adult volunteers 22 to 55 years old participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of L-Citrulline, a dietary supplement from NOW® (#0103). Plasma L-citrulline was measured at baseline, and 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 3 hours following oral administration of 4 capsules providing 3 grams (3,000 mg) of L-citrulline.

Results

Average plasma L-citrulline peaked one hour after ingestion, reaching 13 times the baseline level. The average L-citrulline concentration remained elevated three hours post-supplementation, seven times the baseline level. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® L-Citrulline.

Average plasma L-citrulline concentration in three healthy adult volunteers following a single administration of 3,000 mg of L-Citrulline (4 capsules, product # 0103, NOW®, Bloomingdale, IL).
