Scientifically Backed Sustained Energy*
NOW Sports® Sustained Energy uses Xtenergy
A natural caffeine ingredient derived from green coffee beans (Coffea robusta) using a unique extraction process and a patented delivery technology that allows for a sustained release profile over several hours.*
Sustained Attention Task Study*
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled; 27 medically healthy participants.
Results: Caffeine significantly improved performance cutting mistakes by 50%, reduced incorrect responses by 30%, and speeding up reaction time by 3%.*1
Study on How Long Caffeine Stays in the Blood and How Much is Absorbed Over Time
Randomized, double-blind, single-dose, active-controlled, crossover; 26 healthy males (aged 26 – 38).
Results: Sustained-Release Caffeine (SRC) form Xtenergy formulations shows better effect on mood and alertness from 4 to 12 hours after taking it,* Reduces jitteriness for up to 8 hours and decreases tiredness later on.* Xtenergy is more effective for relaxation and overall mood after the initial 1-2 hours.* There is no safety issues or side effects reported for Xtenergy formulations and they stay in the body longer than immediate-release caffeine (IRC).*2
Effects of Caffeine on Attention in Healthy Adults Study
Randomized, placebo-controlled; 82 healthy adults both males and females (aged 40-60 years), who consume little or no caffeine.
Results: Caffeine improved attention and reaction times in both Mackworth Clock and RVIP tests.* More correct hits and faster reaction times with caffeine.* Better performance at 70 and 120 minutes post-caffeine.* Faster peak velocity and reaction time at 70 and 120 minutes post-caffeine.* Increased alertness and contentment at 70 and 120 minutes post-caffeine as well as reduced fatigue.*3
Effects of Low Doses of Caffeine on Cognitive Performance and Mood
Double-blind within-subjects design controlled with a placebo and five different caffeine doses; 23 adults both males and females with varying level of habitual caffeine intake (aged 18-56 years).
Results: Caffeine improved reaction times, noticeable 45 minutes after consumption, especially in high caffeine consumers.* All doses were equally effective to improve performance for high caffeine consumers, no effect on low caffeine consumers.* Increased energy was observed, especially with 100 mg caffeine.* Caffeine consumption prevented boredom.* There was no significant effect on tension, relaxation, headache, or overall mood.*4
