L-Carnitine 500 mg - Bioavailability Study

Bioavailability Study

L-Carnitine is a non-essential amino acid used to maintain overall good health by facilitating the transfer of fatty acid groups into the mitochondrial membrane for cellular energy production.*

Three healthy adult volunteers, 22 to 55 years old, participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of L-Carnitine 500 mg, a dietary supplement from NOW® (# 0072). Total serum carnitine was measured at baseline, and again at 1, 3, and 6 hours following oral administration of 2 capsules providing 1 gram of L-Carnitine from carnitine tartrate.

Results

Average serum carnitine increased gradually over the course of the study, beginning with the 1–hour measurement, which was 13% above the baseline level. Six hours after supplementation, average carnitine level reached 55% above the baseline concentration. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of dietary supplement L-Carnitine by NOW®.

This study supports the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® L-Carnitine 500 mg.
