6 Steps to Get More Glowy Skin

Go with the Glow

According to Dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman, the effect that we recognize as "glowy" skin is a combination of a few different factors that can generally be attributed to healthy, well-cared-for skin: hydration, smoothness, good circulation, and no dead skin cell buildup.

Dr. Dendy shares her top six tips to help achieve that “glowy” skin look

Cell renewal and circulation are both key ingredients for glowy skin. When dead skin cells are buffed away and skin is smooth and hydrated, natural light can bounce off the skin’s surface, giving it a bright, “glowy” look. Good circulation brings blood to the surface and gives skin a rosy flush, which also contributes to that healthy glow. Diet, sleep and hormonal changes in the body all influence skin’s health and play a role in the appearance of a glowing complexion.

Regularly removing dead skin cells

Regularly removing dead skin cells with a chemical exfoliant (I recommend starting at once a week, then increasing to two or three times if your skin can tolerate it) is a great way to reveal healthy new skin cells for glowing skin.

Incorporate a vitamin A derivative

Incorporate a vitamin A derivative into your routine. While retinol, another name for vitamin A, is a dermatologist's favorite ingredient, it can be irritating for some skin types. I love bakuchiol, which is a plant-based retinol alternative. Bakuchiol, like retinol, helps skin look younger and healthier, and consistent use over time helps reduce signs of aging and makes skin appear younger and brighter. Try NOW® Solutions Bakuchiol Skin Renewal Serum.

Stay hydrated

Of course, keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important. When skin is hydrated (inside and out!) it appears firmer, plumper and glowier. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Hydrate with supplements

Hydrate with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a popular and well-known ingredient for its ability to hold 1000x its molecular weight in water. The NOW® Solutions Hyaluronic Acid Firming Serum balances moisture levels in the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin. You can also opt for this Hydration Rescue dietary supplement that includes a clinically validated form of hyaluronic acid, called Hyabest®, which has been proven to preserve the skin’s moisture*.

Increase your intake of key nutrients

From a dietary perspective, you can achieve healthy, glowing skin by increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, and leafy greens in your diet. Omega-3 fatty acids will help reduce redness and puffiness due to their influence on immune system function, while vitamin C is a super antioxidant that fights free radical damage and minimizes the appearance of aging. It also supports collagen production, which keeps skin looking young and glowy. Greens can be an excellent source of fiber which increases circulation, removes toxins, and keeps the skin glowing.

Always wear SPF sunscreen

Finally, ALWAYS protect the skin by wearing SPF daily, which prevents premature aging and thus keeps skin looking younger and glowier.
