Taurine 1000 mg - Pharmacokinetic (pK) Study

Bioavailability Study

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that functions by stabilizing cell membranes, aiding the transport of electrolytes, and helping to generate and regulate nerve impulses.* Three healthy adult volunteers aged 30 to 51 years participated in a clinical trial to study the bioavailability of Taurine 1000 mg, a dietary supplement from NOW® (item # 0142). Plasma taurine was measured at baseline, and again at 1, 2 and 3 hours following oral administration of one capsule providing 1 gram of taurine.

Results

Average plasma taurine peaked one hour after ingestion, reaching 417 % over the baseline concentration. Average taurine remained 145 % over the baseline level three hours post-supplementation. The study confirms the exceptional bioavailability of NOW® Taurine 1,000 mg.
