Sandi Morris

Professional Pole Vaulter

Fayetteville, Arkansas

Hi! My name is Sandi Morris, and I am a professional pole-vaulter for Nike.

My journey as a track and field athlete began with one shiny quarter.

It was 1999, and Harry and Kerry Morris sat watching their daughter Crissy sprint around in her knee-high socks and shin guards, playing soccer on the local middle-school team. Out of the corner of Kerry’s eye, she spotted their youngest child, little pig-tailed Sandi, holding up a quarter to a little boy. The two were standing on lane one of the track. Little did Kerry know, this moment would change her daughter’s life forever. The boy took the quarter from the bony-kneed girl, and they turned to face the lanes of the track. They raced each other about one straightaway. Sandi dusted the boy to the line, and his mother turned to Kerry and they exchanged a laugh about what they had just witnessed. She then proceeded to tell her about a local track team for kids of all ages. Harry and Kerry soon put Sandi on that track team, and to this day track and field is her life.

I was born in Downers Grove, Illinois, not too far from where my athletic parents competed at Western Illinois as multi-event track and field athletes. We moved to South Carolina when I was four, where my parents still reside. Pole-vault came into my life as an 8th-grader, when a local coach saw me running hurdles and recognized my broad shoulders, speed, and fearlessness. He approached my dad to suggest I take vault lessons. He introduced himself and said, “I think your daughter might make a good vaulter!” Well, needless to say, he was right! After winning two South Carolina state titles in high school, I went on to compete for two years at UNC Chapel Hill, after which I transferred to the University of Arkansas to be part of one of the best track and field programs in NCAA history. At Arkansas I broke the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor records, became 2015 Indoor NCAA Champion, 3-time SEC Champion, SEC Scholar-athlete of the year, and made many memories that I will forever cherish.

I completed my NCAA eligibility in June of 2015 and went on to sign with track and field power-house Nike, Inc. Wearing the swoosh is an honor; it’s something I have dreamt about since childhood. I took 4th in the 2015 Outdoor World Championships held in Beijing, and followed that up this season as 2016 Indoor World Championships Silver medalist and USA Championships Gold Medalist. As an American track and field athlete, I have to take top three at the Olympic Trials in July before knowing for sure that I make the Olympic Team. Team USA is by far the most difficult team to make for women’s pole-vault, which is why it will be such an honor if I accomplish that dream this summer.

I am honored to be a NOW® Ambassador, because their products really help me to stay healthy and keep my nutrition game strong! They offer an incredible range of products to choose from, specifically some of my favorite essential oils. The oils help me wind down after gruesome training sessions and stressful competitions. I mix NOW® Sports Whey Protein Isolate Natural Dutch Chocolate in water or milk and drink a glass after each workout. Before bed I take ZMA’s, (zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B-6) to help my body recover from the ringer I put it through each and every day.

I am passionate about not only track and field, but about fitness in general, and I hope reading my story will help you get out of bed tomorrow and conquer your day!
