More About Vitamin A

Vitamin A

While vitamin A is referred to singularly, this important nutrient is actually a group of fat-soluble retinoids and carotenoids that help support our health and well-being.

There are two types of vitamin A found in our diet – preformed vitamin A retinoids, also referred to as retinol and its esterified form, retinyl ester, and provitamin A carotenoids, the most well-known of which is beta-carotene.

Vitamin A is important for numerous bodily functions including normal visual function, immune system health, healthy bones and teeth, and healthy skin.* Vitamin A is required by the body in order to utilize protein. In addition, it’s an antioxidant vitamin that helps protect against free radical damage.*

Due to their complementary benefits for structural support, you’ll often find vitamin A and vitamin D together in supplements formulated to support bone health.* We offer two different Vitamin A & D combinations, a standard strength 10,000 IU Vitamin A/400 IU Vitamin D-3 and an extra strength 25,000 IU Vitamin A and 1,000 IU Vitamin D.

Beta-carotene is a form of vitamin A that is familiar to many people. It’s classified as a carotenoid, which is a class of natural pigments found abundantly in plants and fruits. Once ingested, beta-carotene can be converted to vitamin A in the liver. Beta-carotene is only converted to vitamin A as needed by the body, making it a safe source, even at high doses.
