troy-davis great jumpMy name is Troy Doris and I am an Olympic Triple Jumper from Bolingbrook, Ill. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Political Science. I had aspirations to be an immigration lawyer, but becoming an Olympian was always my top priority.

I started Track and Field when I was 12 years old. It was at the age of 15 I realized this was my passion so I focused on that during high school. When I was young, sports were a bit of a strenuous commitment for me. I suffered from severe asthma symptoms and back pain from scoliosis. These are the same ailments I deal with today. Placing 4th at the IHSA State Finals in the Triple Jump as a sophomore was a huge motivating factor for me. I pushed through the obstacles and proved to myself that if I stayed committed and worked extremely hard, anything was possible. I went on my Junior and senior year to win State and National titles each year in the Long and Triple Jump.

At the University of Iowa I completed my career, winning 4 Big 10 Championship Gold medals and becoming a 4-time NCAA All-American. College absolutely prepared me for what was to come as a professional Track and Field athlete. After college I made a transition to California where I was training at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista for three years prior to the Summer Games in Rio. My fourth year into training, I decided to move back to Chicago to continue my training and compete for my “mother country” Guyana. Finishing 7th in Rio, I created history by being the first person for my country to make an Olympic Final. This accomplishment meant everything to my family and me. My goal is to become a medalist in the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan.
