Minerals FAQ's

I have heard that know your Ionic Minerals and Trace Mineral capsules come from the Great Salt Lake in Utah. I have heard that parts of this lake might have impurities. How can I be sure of the quality of these two products?

This type of material has been on the market for more than 37 years. There are hundreds of testimonials from all over the world claiming health benefits.

Minerals are harvested from the very northern end of Great Salt Lake. The northern desert of the Great Salt Lake is very remote. In 1903, a twelve-mile bridge was built across the Great Salt Lake. In 1959, a solid-fill causeway was built to replace the old trestle. This causeway still separates the north (Gunnison Bay) and south (Gilbert Bay) ends of the lake. This separation has caused the north end of the lake to have a higher mineral and salt concentration, as well as higher purity, since the industrial activity takes place in the southern region of the lake.

The lake also has the ability to clean itself. In 1980, Tayler and others documented that much of the organic matter entering the southern arm of the lake through tributaries is removed by an extensive system of wetlands. The remaining organic matter is cleaned by the lake's effective biosystem, which includes algae and brine shrimp that are themselves filtered and removed as part of the processing. The lake also has the ability to rid itself of heavy metals. Heavy metals have been shown in the past to precipitate out of the lake brine as metallic sulfides, which accumulate in the lake sediment. This explains the low levels of heavy metals observed in all the testing.

Many different tests have been conducted in order to ensure the quality of our liquid mineral from the Great Salt Lake. These tests cover a full spectrum of minerals that include radioactive elements, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, volatile chemicals, semi-volatile chemicals, etc. None of the test results raised concern regarding safety of our products. This is an on-going effort with repeated monitoring every year.

I bought a bottle of NOW Ionic Trace Minerals today.  I compared products at the store for quite a while, but it wasn't until I got home that I realized that the product contains arsenic.  That concerns me.  How can that be safe?  Do you have any information on that?  I am about six months pregnant and do not want to take any chances.

Multi-component Trace Mineral formulas naturally contain the full spectrum of minerals, just like whole foods do. Any healthy mineral-rich foods (such as a piece of fruit or the sea water used to make the Ionic minerals) will contain minute levels of not only arsenic, mercury or lead, but exotic minerals as well, such as Cerium, Cesium, Europium, Gadolinium, Gallium, Indium, Iridium, Lanthanum, Platinum, Rubidium, Scandium, Silver, Strontium, Thallium, Thorium, and Vanadium. We have strict limits on the levels of these metals, requiring them to be below one part-per-million level in concentration. This level is considered as safe as food sources.
