 SEMINAR:  The Importance of Dietary Fats

Amy Kosowski, Illiniois Licensed Dietician-Nutritionist and Member of the NOW Foods Product Development Technical Research Team. With a Master’s degree in Nutritional Biology from the University of Chicago, Amy studied medical physiology, cell and molecular biology, as well as the molecular mechanisms of disease processes.
 
This discussion includes the functions of fat in the diet, fats that stimulate metabolism, specific fatty acids that are extremely important for immune system function; fats that keep skin soft and supple, DHA and Arachidonic acid for brain and nervous system development, as well as for the optimal transmission of nerve impulse and neurotransmitter function; and the types of fats consumed in the diet to determine membrane fluidity.

We are often asked how we can make a quality product and still keep our prices so low.  In this presentation, Dr. Lelah will answer this question for you as he takes you on a journey through our processes and our facility to give you insight into what goes into making excellent quality at NOW Foods.

Dr. Medhekar earned both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Bombay. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Iowa. While obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Medhekar was awarded the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing Fellowship. Dr. Medhekar has also been the author of several publications pertaining to the structure and function of enzymes. He is presently involved in the characterization of fungal enzyme activities, the effects of enzymes on botanical compounds, and the application of enzyme products to specific health needs.
