From NNFA, “What You Should Know About Organic Certification"
Organic and non-GMO product listing
In October of 2002 the U.S. Department of Agriculture released new national standards for the production, handling and processing of organically produced agricultural products. These standards are very specific and prohibit the use of genetic engineering, ionizing radiation, sewage sludge and other substances in the production or processing of organic products. These standards also assure uniform regulation and certification of organic products, which varied widely from state-to-state in the past.
There are now 4 different labeling categories for manufacturers who wish to label their products “organic”:
- 100% Organic – products must contain 100 percent organically produced ingredients
- Organic – products must be comprised of 95% or more organic ingredients
- Made With Organic Ingredients – products must contain 70 to 95% organic ingredients
- For Products With Less Than 70% organic ingredients – ingredients in these products must not be produced using methods not included in the organic regulations
NOW Foods is a certified by QAI (Quality Assurance International) as an organic manufacturer and we're constantly adding certified organic products to our line of herbal products and whole foods.
