Hi, I’m Amanda Gazzola a 28 year old Fitness Competitor and Personal Trainer living in Guelph, Ontario. I am a very athletic person and have always been into sports. I grew up participating in soccer, volleyball, dodgeball and softball. I recently became a personal trainer and am going to be a boot camp instructor for True Mentality in Milton, Ontario. The love of this occupation has taught me to love my self and to become healthier and to educate people. I have also fallen in love with fitness competitions. I am about to compete in my third event and all I can say is that my favorite part is going on stage and meeting fellow competitors, listening to their stories as well as enjoying the dedication, motivation and hard work it takes to get there. I have not placed yet, but can say with confidence that each time I am getting better and better! That’s all I can ask for!
In 2010 I was a wreck, upset and angry. Due to the recession I could not find employment and felt as though there must be something wrong with me. I lost confidence in myself and stopped striving to be the best I could be. Then one day I got a call from my mother. I knew there was something wrong because she was calling from her cell when she was supposed to be at work. She was saying in a nice calm voice that dad was in the hospital and they don’t know what is wrong with him but he is going to be okay. I immediately rushed to the hospital. Seeing my dad weak, ghost faced and hooked up to all these machines and crying, made my heart sink in to my stomach. It hurt me to know there was nothing I could do. Then and there I knew I had to cherish each moment in life with my loved ones. It does sound so cliché, but it is one of those things that you do not know what you have until you lose (or almost lose) someone. I am lucky to have another chance to do what I have always wanted to do and that’s build a strong relationship with my dad.
Late in 2010, I attended my first Ultimate Fitness Event. I have always enjoyed fitness, nutrition, and living a healthy lifestyle. I felt immediately out of my element but something was driving me to give it a shot. Being judged on your physique while also being praised for your dedication and will power is not only self-motiving, but inspires others around you. If you can do it so can they! So I decided to sign up for the next competition and a little over a month later I was competing in my first Physique event. Boy did I enjoy it. I was super nervous but did not let that spoil my stage presentation. I did not place but that only pushed me to work harder and I am determined to rock the show in the next competitions that I enter. Due to a love for fitness and nutrition I have now become a personal trainer and I’m working on finishing my basement where I can work from home. I am also becoming a bootcamp instructor and finishing my correspondence course in nutrition.
NOW Foods is my ideal supplement partner because I believe in natural products. For almost two years I have made NOW a part of my training regimen. On a regular basis I use Lecithin in my protein shakes, plus mix it with foods and yogurt. NOW also has an excellent Stevia product that allows me to use a natural sweetener with Zero calories. I enjoy NOW’s nut products (they have a great selection – Almonds, Cashews, Macademia etc.). When preparing for fitness competitions I also add in Maca and Chia Seeds. I do not believe in short cuts. I believe that our goals are achieved through hard work. It’s also very important to me that NOW is concerned with a person’s well- being and safety and NOW’s products are formulated properly. My boyfriend works for a nutraceutical testing company and does extensive research on the ingredients contained in natural health products. He is the backbone for educating me about products and lets me know what is good or not. NOW Foods passes the test so I know I’m using high quality products from a reputable company. I look forward to sharing the knowledge that I have gained about nutrition and supplementation so I can help others to make positive improvements in their lives!
